2022 Chevy Models Will Have Limited Production
You’ve probably heard of the disruptions caused by the shortage of chips in the automotive industry. The shortage is causing more delay as General Motors recently announced more cuts to vehicle production in North America. With this announcement, it’s clear there will be limited availability for 2022 Chevy models. At Smith Chevrolet in Lowell, Indiana, we have a great selection of 2022 models now, and we can help you order any model we don’t have!
What’s Happening at GM
General Motors is adding and extending downtimes in eight auto manufacturing plants in the United States, Canada, and Mexico due to the global parts problem of the chip shortage. This signals this shortage remains a serious issue for the car industry. Some of the impacted vehicles, GM’s full-size and midsize pickup trucks, Chevrolet Blazer, GMC Terrain, among others.
Specifically, the production of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 full-size pickup in Indiana and Mexico is expected to resume after a week of downtime. Other vehicles impacted by the new production cuts range from its Chevrolet midsize pickups and vans in Missouri to the Chevrolet Trailblazer in Mexico and crossover production across North America.
How GM is Handling the Shortage
In a statement, General Motors said, “Although the situation remains complex and very fluid, we remain confident in our team’s ability to continue finding creative solutions to minimize the impact on our highest-demand and capacity-constrained vehicles.”
Although the chip shortage continues and may linger well into 2022, General Motors is only expecting production to be down by about 100,000 vehicles in North America during the second half of the year compared with the first six months.
